The government is fully committed to facilitating unfettered access to the operation of humanitarian partners, says Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia.
The minister said this today during his meeting with David Beasley, Executive Director of the World Food Program (WFP), and Matilda Ernkrans, Minister of International Cooperation of Sweden..
The two sides discussed humanitarian supply to conflict and drought-affected people, accountability issues in the conflict in the northern part of the country, trust-building steps taken by the federal government, Ethiopia’s foreign ministry said in a statement.
During the meeting, Demeke expressed his appreciation to the WFP and Sweden for their efforts to ensure the supply of humanitarian aid to those in need in Ethiopia.
The Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to facilitate unfettered access to the operation of humanitarian partners.
Discussing the fuel and fertilizers supply to the Tigray region, MoFA said the two sides noted that humanitarian partners should work closely in consultation with relevant government institutions in charge of these matters.
WFP’s Beasley and Swedish Minister Ernkrans applauded the commitments that the government demonstrated in doing its level best to ensure unfettered flow of humanitarian supply to the Tigray region, reads MoFA’s statement.
They also pledged to support conflict-affected people in the Amhara and Afar regions and the more than 20 million people who need humanitarian support due to drought in other parts of the country.
