President Sahle-Work Attends UNESCO’s Transforming Education Pre-Summit in Paris

Ethiopian delegation, led by President Sahle-work Zewde, is participating in the ongoing UNESCO’s Transforming Education Pre-Summit high-level discussion in Paris.

This meeting is a precursor to the Transforming Education Summit (TES), to be held in September at the UN General Assembly in New York. 

The two-day high-level engagement has started today in France’s capital where 154 education ministers from across the globe are in attendance.

The President is Chair of the UNESCO International Commission for Futures of Education, which produced the Sahlework Report, a blueprint for transforming education in the 21st century.

Speaking at the pre-summit, President Sahle-work highlighted the indispensable role of education and the need to transform it to contribute to global citizenship and peace as well as inclusive societies. 

Ethiopia is honored to be at the forefront and to play a lead role in the global drive to transform education, the president said.

The ministerial meeting is discussion on five key areas of transformation including schools, life-long quality learning, teachers, connectivity, and financing education.

It will also harness the evolving discussions on transforming education, and elaborate initial content for the main Transforming Education Summit scheduled for September, Summit, according to UNESCO.
