Govt says ENDF Seizing More Towns as Delegates Left for Peace Talks

The Ethiopian National Defence Force (ENDF) has continued to seize more towns in Tigray region, says the government, as officials head for negotiations to South Africa.

“ENDF has continued taking control of major urban centers in the past few days,” revealed the Government Communication Service in a current situation update today.

The update did not mention the names of the towns the army seized.

However, the mentioned that ENDEF has “succeeded in avoiding combat in urban areas while debilitating the military capabilities” of the rebel group Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).

As per the statement, the government is now working on resuming humanitarian aid delivery and essential services to residents of the areas under ENDF’s control.

“The Government is also exploring ways in which public administration and social services in these areas could begin in consultation with the local population,” the latest update noted.

The update comes on the date the African Union led peace talks between the government and the rebel group TPLF is expected to convene in South Africa.

The GCS said the delegation of the Ethiopian Government has left for South Africa on Monday morning.

The Federal government’s view is the talks as an opportunity to peacefully resolve the conflict, according to its Communication Office.

It will also”consolidate the improvement of the situation on the ground brought about through the sacrifices of the ENDF,” the office added.
