Ethiopia and Sudan in talks to built a joint railway

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the experts and representatives of consulting companies of the two countries have started a consultation in Khartoum.

The two countries’ representatives met to evaluate the feasibility study that has been going on to connect Ethiopia and Sudan by railway.

The purpose of the two-day expert consultation is to evaluate and approve the feasibility study of the construction of the joint railway, which has reached its final stage, and decides on the next steps, the ministry said.

In his speech at the opening of the consultation, the Ethiopian ambassador to Sudan, Yebeltal Aemiro, said that the feasibility study should be approved and the financing activities should be started.

The two countries started their process four years before to connect Addis Ababa to Khartoum through a railway.

The joint railway project finance would be covered by the African development bank and the two countries.

Ethiopia and Sudan are connected by air and road transport.

Since the current military-led government-controlled power, the two countries’ diplomatic relationship was in trouble and now it seems there is progress.
