Several were killed by police in Shashemene city, Western Ethiopia

In Shashemene city, the movement of the city has stopped due to the illegal appointment of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Synod.

Early morning today, after the arrival of the illegal synod appointees in Shashemane city of Oromia region, riots broke out in the city.

According to eyewitnesses,
When the Ethiopian orthodox church members tried to protect it from that illegal synod, Oromia special forces prevented them from entering and opened fire on the people.

Eyewitnesses told to Ethio Negari that during the clashes in Shashemene city, the police fired into the crowd and several people died.

Two people died in the city this morning due to the shooting and beating of the security forces.

Currently, transport services are completely suspended in the city and commercial shops are also closed.

A large number of security forces have been deployed in Shashemene city, and the government also have brought residents from other areas into the city by car.

His Holiness Abune Yosef, the archbishop of West RC Diocese said about the matter, “The federal government should take responsibility and stop the killing of Orthodox people in Shashemene.”
