Ethiopia lost its environmental protection researcher

The famous environmental scientist Dr. Tewolde Berhan Gebreegzabher died at the age of 83.

Dr. Tewoldeberhan was born in a “Adi-Slam” near Adwa city in Tigray region, northern Ethiopia.

Dr. Tewolde, who has a prominent researcher in the field of environmental protection, received the “Right Livelihood Award” in 2000 for his research in the field and his efforts to create greater awareness of the issue.

In addition, in 2006, the United Nations received the “Champions of the Earth award”, which is given to people who have made significant contributions to environmental protection.

Addis Ababa University, where he studied, awarded him honorary doctorate in 1997.

Dr. Tewolde served as the Dean of the Science Faculty of Addis Ababa University in the early 1970s, and was the President of Asmara University from 1975 to 1983.

After the fall of the Derg government, he served as the director general of the Environmental Protection Authority for many years.

Dr. Tewolde is the brother of author Sebhat Gebreegzabher
