Severals killed in Addis Ababa at Anwar mosque- Eye witness

Many people were killed by the police against the followers of Islam in Addis Ababa’s Anwar Mosque.

There was a security problem at the Anwar Mosque in Addis Ababa Mercato around lunch time today.

Eye witnesses told Ethio Negari that, “When we finished the Friday prayer at Anwar Mosque and going out, the police fired shots, then people started falling and screaming.”

“I saw two people who were near me were shot in the arms and legs and fell down,” the eyewitness said.

Another witness, who did not want to be named, said, “When there was no protest, the police shot us while we were going out peacefully after the prayer.”

The witness added that, “A man who was near me was shot in the chest and died. I also saw other people who were wounded and bleeding.”

The witness also mentioned that the injured people were bleeding for a long time and were taken to medical care too late.

After the prayer ended, the people who left the mosque became the main victims.

The eyewitness said that the people who were inside the mosque were still unable to leave, and they were suffering from hunger and fatigue.

Addis Ababa police said to Al-AIN news that, would soon arrange a press conference about the incident.

City police commission announced that, two people died in the same security incident last week.

The Islamic Council of Addis Ababa, on the other hand, opposed the action taken by the Addis Ababa police against the followers of Islam who were holding a peaceful demonstration against the destruction of mosques taking place in Sheger city.

The council said that the actions of the Addis Ababa police were unacceptable and demanded that punishment be imposed on the security forces who took disproportionate and illegal action.
