Ethio Telecom plans to earn 90 billion birr in 2016 fiscal year

The CEO of Ethio Telecom, Frehiwot Tamru, announced the institution’s plan for the 2016 fiscal year.

According to the CEO, it is planned to earn 90.5 billion birr from general telecom services in the current fiscal year.

The official added that the organization has plans to get 13 million new customers in the 2016 fiscal year, bringing the total number of customers to 92 million.

Another goal of the institute is to increase Telebirr customers to 44.1 million, mobile voice service users to 75 million and Internet users to 41 million.

In general, the institution has planned to increase the usage rate of telecom services to 71 percent in Ethiopia, Frehiwot said.

In terms of expanding telecom infrastructure, it is planned to build 998 new mobile network stations, of which 140 will be built in rural areas.

Regarding the expansion of 4G network service, the executive mentioned that it is planned to increase the number of cities providing the service to 440 cities.

Despite this, the organization mentioned issues that could be a challenge to its operations, especially inflation, security problems, and lack of foreign currency could be a threat to the organization’s operations.

Also, the third telecom operator after Safaricom will be the other competitor of Ethio Telecom.
