Police shuts down LGBT centered pubs in Addis Ababa

Addis Ababa Police has announced that, it has taken action against institutions where homosexual activities are carried out in the city.

The commission explained that, police shut down LGBT community centered hotels, bars and restaurants in collaboration with the Addis Ababa Culture and Tourism Office.

According to police, cimes were committed in same-sex entertainment centers that deviated from the country’s existing culture, tradition, lifestyle and religion.

The police also announced that, they have received suggestions from the public about hotels, restaurants, pensions and similar entertainment facilities that carry out homosexual activities.

Addis Ababa Peace and Security Administration Office added that, performing and enforcing homosexual acts is prohibited by the laws in force in Ethiopia.

The police also announced that, the owners of same-sex entertainment houses are under police custody and are being investigated.
