Prior to his arrival in Addis Ababa, President da Silva is also scheduled to visit Egypt, further demonstrating Brazil’s commitment to engaging with key African nations.

Brazil, home to the second-largest population of black people globally after Africa, shares a deep-rooted historical and cultural connection with Africa and its diaspora.

“Brazil wants to repay its historical debt to Africa,” remarked President da Silva in anticipation of his visit, highlighting the significance of acknowledging and honoring this shared history. This sentiment underscores Brazil’s efforts to strengthen its diplomatic and cultural ties with African nations.

President Silva’s forthcoming visit to Africa will mark his second trip to the continent, following his previous visits to Angola, Cape Verde, and Sao Tome and Principe in 2022.

As a member country of the Group of 20 (G20), Brazil holds a significant position in global affairs and is slated to host the group’s annual meeting in November.

This presents a valuable opportunity for Brazil to leverage its influence and promote dialogue on key economic and developmental issues on both regional and global scales.

In Brazil, the black Brazilian population exceeds 20 million citizens, comprising approximately 11 percent of the total population. This demographic statistic underscores the cultural diversity and richness within Brazil, reflecting the country’s vibrant multicultural heritage.
