Addis Ababa University Receives Digital Braille Devices From Korea

Addis Ababa University (AAU) announced that it has received 30 modern digital braille devices, each worth $5,000, totaling $150,000.

The university signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the South Korea International Cooperation Agency to collaborate on this initiative.

According to the agreement, AAU will receive an additional 30 digital braille devices as part of the support.

These modern devices will assist visually impaired undergraduate and graduate students in their studies by leveraging technology.

The digital braille devices will enable students to download and access research articles from various databases at no cost, significantly enhancing their academic experience.

This initiative aligns with AAU’s five-year strategic plan focused on digitization.

Furthermore, AAU has announced that it will hold its 74th graduation ceremony on July 6, 2024, at the Millennium Hall, graduating students from its undergraduate and postgraduate programs.

Addis Ababa University, the oldest university in Ethiopia, is recognized as the leading institution in terms of research activities, faculty numbers, and other educational standards.

According to a recent report by the International University Ranking Center, which ranks the top 2,000 universities globally, Harvard University was named the top university, followed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Stanford University.

In Africa, South African universities dominate the top rankings, with the University of Cape Town, the University of the Witwatersrand, and Stellenbosch University occupying the first three positions.

Six Ethiopian universities, including Addis Ababa University, the University of Gondar, Mekelle University, Jimma University, Bahir Dar University, and Haramaya University, were included in the list of the world’s top 2,000 universities.

Addis Ababa University was ranked 841st globally, while the University of Gondar and Mekelle University were ranked 1701st and 1748th, respectively.
