Ethiopia Warns Its Citizens in Lebanon Amid Escalating Tensions

The Ethiopian Embassy in Beirut has issued a cautionary statement to Ethiopians residing in Lebanon, urging them to exercise heightened vigilance.

This advisory comes in the wake of escalating tensions in the Middle East.

The crisis intensified after Iran threatened retaliation against Israel following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah commander Fuad Chakour by Israeli forces.

As a result, flights to the Middle East have been canceled, and multiple countries are warning their citizens about the potential for conflict.

In a statement from the Consulate General of Ethiopia in Beirut, it was highlighted that the security situation in Lebanon and the broader region is deteriorating.

The Consulate is working closely with the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safety of Ethiopians in Lebanon.

Citizens have been advised to stay alert and report any unusual situations to the consular hotline or via WhatsApp.

They are also urged to follow instructions from Lebanese government offices and avoid participating in demonstrations or public gatherings.

Additionally, Ethiopians in Lebanon should stay informed by following reliable news sources and official channels.

Western countries, including the United States, have also issued warnings to their citizens in Lebanon.

The US Embassy in Beirut has urged American citizens to leave Lebanon immediately via any available flights.

Those who cannot leave are advised to prepare for long-term sheltering. France, Britain, and other European countries have similarly advised their citizens to leave Lebanon before commercial flights are suspended.

Amid the growing threat of war in the Middle East, major airlines have suspended flights to Israel, Lebanon, and Iran. Over 160,000 Israelis are reportedly stranded at airports worldwide due to flight cancellations.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has informed the foreign ministers of the Group of Seven (G7) nations that an attack on Israel by Iran and Hezbollah could be imminent.

In response, Israel has declared its readiness to counter potential attacks from Iran and Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia and Jordan have pledged to intercept any missiles entering their airspace aimed at Israel. Egypt, however, has declined a similar request from Israel.

As the situation continues to evolve, Ethiopians in Lebanon are urged to prioritize their safety and adhere to the guidelines provided by the Ethiopian Embassy and local authorities.
