Ethiopia’s Short Film Nominated for Best Storytelling at World Animation Summit

G Media Studios’ Animation “Keffa The Curious Goat” Gains International Acclaim

G Media Studios, an animation studio renowned for its innovative storytelling, is thrilled to announce that its short film, “Keffa The Curious Goat,” has been nominated for three prestigious awards in the United States.

Inspired by the rich tapestry of Ethiopian folklore, the film has captivated audiences and judges alike with its rich storytelling and cultural significance.

“Keffa The Curious Goat” is based on the tale of a young goat herder named Kaldi and his curious goat, Keffa, who discover the magical beans that would later become the world’s favorite caffeinated beverage, coffee.

This whimsical animation characterized by playful antics and supercharged energy, captures the essence of discovery and the joyous origins of coffee.

The film has been nominated for Best General Animation Film at the AfroAnimation Animation Summit 3rd Annual Indie Short Animation Film Awards; Best Animated Short at the Queens Underground Black History International Film Festival, recognized for its unique portrayal of Ethiopian folklore and contribution to Black cultural heritage; and Best Animation at the San Francisco Black Film Festival.

Bereket Tafesse, the creative force behind G Media Studios, expressed his pride in the team’s achievements, stating, “These nominations are a testament to our dedication to creating high-quality, culturally resonant content. Our team’s recognition at these prestigious festivals validates our efforts and commitment to diversity in storytelling.”

While “Keffa The Curious Goat” is currently not available for public viewing as it continues its festival circuit, G Media Studios plans to host a screening event and release the trailer soon.

The film, developed entirely in-house—from script to screen—by a passionate team of Ethiopian artists, represents a significant milestone in African animation and showcases the studio’s comprehensive capabilities.

Looking ahead, G Media Studios is actively seeking partnerships with studios and production companies to develop “Keffa The Curious Goat” into a television series or feature film.

The studio has been collaborating with industry veterans, including Ferdinand producer Lisa Stelter, Jan Wayn Phillip, and Spencer Green, to explore this exciting opportunity.

This venture aims to bring Ethiopian culture and stories to a global audience, further solidifying the studio’s position in the international animation industry.
