Addis Ababa to Host International Boxing Tournament

The African Boxing Confederation has opened its main office in Addis Ababa and will officially inaugurate it on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

To mark this occasion, the federation is organizing the first international boxing tournament in Africa.

This event, coordinated by the International Boxing Association in collaboration with the African Boxing Confederation and the Ethiopian Boxing Federation, will take place at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa.

Twenty international professional boxers from Russia, Mexico, England, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Nigeria, and other African countries will participate.

The boxers competing in this special tournament will vie for the highest cash prize ever awarded in African boxing history, with the competition spanning ten bouts.

Numerous media outlets from different countries are expected to cover the event.

This professional boxing tournament is a milestone, as it is the first of its kind to be organized in Africa, with Ethiopia being the host nation.

Sports enthusiasts can watch the matches at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa starting at 5:00 pm.

Tickets are priced at 1500 Birr or $15 and must be purchased in advance. The African Boxing Federation has provided an online payment option for those interested in attending.

The African Boxing Federation, established in 1960 to promote boxing, has 50 member countries, including Ethiopia.

On November 18, 2023, the board of directors of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) chose Addis Ababa as its headquarters and Berhanu Eyassu Wossen elected as President of the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC).
