Yango Celebrates One Million App Downloads with Awards in Ethiopia

Yango, the international ride-hailing service under the Yango Group, marked a significant milestone by celebrating one million app downloads in Ethiopia.

In honor of this achievement, the company hosted its 2024 Annual Awards, recognizing top partner drivers and loyal users at a dinner event held at the Union Cocktail and Bar Restaurant in Addis Ababa.

The event was attended by business leaders, media personalities, influencers, and major partners. Yango took the opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and contributions of its partners and drivers, which have fueled the company’s rapid growth since entering the Ethiopian market nearly a year ago.

Dr. Yekenalem Abebe, Yango’s Country Manager for Ethiopia, expressed the company’s commitment to investing in the country, providing digital services, and supporting local businesses.

“Yango has created income-generating opportunities for partner drivers while empowering small and medium-sized enterprises to flourish,” he said. He emphasized that the event was Yango’s way of rewarding the hard work and support of the community, partners, drivers, users, and stakeholders.

Dr. Yekenalem also highlighted the significant impact Yango’s operations have had on its stakeholders, particularly the partner drivers and their families.

He proudly announced that the Yango app has now reached nearly one million downloads, with an impressive estimated arrival time of under five minutes for rides—a metric that continues to improve.

Since January, the company has seen a fourfold increase in trips and orders, with the number of partner drivers growing by 30% each month.

Looking ahead, Yango aims to support multi-modal mobility in Addis Ababa by expanding into e-bike and e-scooter services, leveraging the city’s growing bike infrastructure.

During the event, Yango honored several individuals for their exceptional contributions. Demoze Yirgalem, Yeabsira Yohannes, and Amanuel were recognized for winning a social media contest, while Fasil Gebeyaw was named “Driver of the Year” for completing the highest number of rides. Sileshi Gidey was awarded “Rider of the Year” for being the most frequent passenger on the Yango app.

Expressing his gratitude, “Driver of the Year” Fasil Gebeyaw shared, “I’m very happy to win this award, and I encourage all partner drivers to use Yango—it’s the best and most rewarding ride-hailing service. If you focus and work hard, you’ll make more money to support yourself and your family.”

Similarly, “Rider of the Year” Sileshi Gidey praised Yango for its affordability, comfort, and safety, urging others to choose Yango for their travel needs.

Yango continues to transform global technologies into everyday services, committed to innovation and enhancing lives by adapting cutting-edge solutions for local communities.
