Job Opportunities with the Norwegian Refugee Council in Ethiopia

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking qualified candidates for the following positions:

1. WASH Coordinator

Location: Maitsebri
Qualifications:

  • Degree in Water Engineering, Public Health, Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Hydrology, or Irrigation Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in senior WASH roles (Manager or Coordinator) in humanitarian or recovery contexts with INGOs/NGOs.
  • Proven experience in implementing integrated WASH activities (both software and hardware).
  • Experience working in complex and volatile environments.
  • Demonstrated results in responsibilities related to the position.
  • Strong leadership skills and profile.
  • Fluency in English (both written and verbal); knowledge of local languages is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with the operating context in the Somali Region.
  • Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and statistical packages.
  • Knowledge of SPHERE standards and their application to emergency and long-term development practices.
  • Excellent teamwork and interpersonal skills.

2. Livelihood and Food Security Officer

Location: Bidu
Qualifications:

  • BSc/MSc in Plant Science, Animal Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Marketing, Natural Resource Management, or related fields.
  • Diploma holders in the above fields with over 5 years of proven hands-on experience may also be considered.
  • Experience as a Project Officer/Assistant/Expert in a humanitarian or recovery context.
  • Previous experience in complex and volatile environments.
  • Strong understanding of the context in the Afar Region.
  • Documented results relevant to the position’s responsibilities.
  • Proficiency in English; knowledge of the local language is essential.
  • Experience in project start-up and exit strategy implementation.

3. Livelihood and Food Security Assistant

Location: Abala and Afdera
Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of experience working with International NGOs.
  • Experience in food security and livelihood interventions, particularly General Food Distribution (GFD)/Commodity distribution.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Positive attitude, hardworking, and capable of independent problem-solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with rural populations in English and manage conflict resolution.
  • Familiarity with the Afar region and ability to engage with local stakeholders is an asset.
  • Willingness to travel extensively, including to remote and challenging locations.
  • Competence in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and navigating the internet and email.
