Ethiopia’s Annual CSO week to be held in December

The Authority for Civil Society Organizations (ACSO) and the Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council (ECSOC) announce Preparations are underway to host the annual CSOs Week event

Preparations have commenced to celebrate the annual Civil Society Organizations Week (CSOs Week) for the fourth time. The Authority for Civil Society Organizations and the Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council are collaborating to jointly organize this year’s Civil Society Organizations Week.

Last year, the second CSOs Week was celebrated under the theme “Active Participation of Civil Society Organizations for Lasting Peace, Protection of Human Rights and Building Good Governance”.

The two institutions stated that preparations are being made this year, to observe the event under the theme “Renewing the Promise for Sustainable Peace & Equitable Development” in line with realizing the peace processes that have been started following the existing situation in Ethiopia.

In addition to promoting the work of the many Civil Society Organizations through exhibitions, extensive work will be done to ensure the involvement of development partners, the private sector, government institutions and other stakeholders in various discussion forums.

The main objective of Civil Society Organizations Week is to create an opportunity for organizations in the sector to introduce the role they are playing to the public and stakeholders in addition to facilitating a platform where CSOs can work closely with the government, private sector and other development partners.

Civil Society Organizations are expected to play a significant role in peace building efforts and should help closely to ensure that the upcoming national dialogue process is inclusive and transparent. Celebrating CSOs Week – 2023 will have a major contribution to highlight the development activities of the sector.

The annual event where some 100 CSOs will be showcasing their work at an exhibition is expected to play a major role in the image building of the Civil Society Sector of the country.

CSOs Week – 2024, which will be held from December 6-8, 2024, will include a colorful opening ceremony, panel discussions, exhibitions, and media sessions among other events.

The event is also expected to create an opportunity for CSOs to work together on their common areas of interest. Those interested in partaking in showcasing their work at this year’s CSOs Week exhibition can register by reaching out to the organizers.

The Ethiopian Civil Society Organizations Council is an independent institution established as per Article 85 of Proclamation No. 1113/2019 and is mandated to represent and coordinate the civil society sector in Ethiopia. Currently, over 4,000 civil society organizations are members of the Council.
