Accordingly, from the coming Monday, in September, schools in Moscow will start teaching African languages, the Department of Education and Science of Moscow announced, Sputnik reported.
According to the report, the Pedagogy School 1517 teaches Swahili as a second foreign language.
Also the school named 1522 teaches the Amharic language.
Russia to strengthen the friendship with Africa, one or two lessons a week will be devoted to the teaching of African languages.
Russia has also announced that it will begin teaching the Yoruba language, which is widely spoken in West Africa.
Additionally, research is being conducted to continue teaching Somali and Zulu languages in Russian schools.
Another far eastern country, China, has announced that it will start teaching Amharic at the Bachelor of Arts level.
Amharic language is to be offered as one of the 101 foreign language courses offered by Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU).
Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonon inaugurated Amharic language textbooks for Chinese students when he visited Beijing for an official visit last May.
The textbooks were prepared for Chinese students by the Beijing Foreign Studies University.
