General Al Burhan, arrives in Addis Ababa for an official visit

The president of Sudan’s sovereign council and the commander of the country’s army, General Abdulfatah Alburhan, has arrived in Addis Ababa for an official visit.

General Al Burhan will discuss the current situation in Sudan and other bilateral issues with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.

The war between the Sudanese army and its rapid force, which has been in its seventh month, has claimed the lives of more than 9,000 people.

Efforts to end the war, which has displaced more than 5.6 million people, through diplomatic means, continue.

Although the two powers have repeatedly held talks in Riyadh, they have not yet reached an agreement.

A consultation was recently held in Addis Ababa, in which more than 80 political and civil organizations of the country participated, without a request to establish a transitional government in Sudan.

Ethiopia, whose embassy in Khartoum was bombed, has been working with the East African Intergovernmental Organization (IGAD) to bring the two warring forces closer together.

The Sudanese army did not participate in the Quadrilateral Forum held in Addis Ababa last June, in which the leaders of Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, and Djibouti participated.

Army Commander General Abdul Fatah Al Burhan, who visited Egypt and Saudi Arabia, arrived in Addis Ababa today.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Abiy, the general is expected to discuss peace negotiations in Khartoum and the safety of Ethiopians in Sudan.

Fleeing the war in Sudan, more than 100,000 Sudanese and citizens of various countries entered Ethiopia through Matema, Gambella, and Kumruk.  According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, more than 34,000 Ethiopians have been evacuated from the war zone.

General Alburhan recently went to Nairobi and consulted with the then Chairman of IGAD and the President of Kenya, William Ruto.

The two East African state leaders agreed to resolve Sudan’s civil war through dialogue.

The Sudanese National Army, led by General Al Burhan, is fighting against the Sudanese forces, and the country’s capital, Khartoum, Darfur, and many areas are under the control of the rapid forces.

The number of citizens who fled the war in Sudan and migrated to Ethiopia has reached 100 thousand and many citizens are entering through Metma, Kumrock, and Gambella for their safety.
