National Lottery in Pursuit of Eight Million Birr Lottery Winner

The National Lottery Administration has declared its search for the fortunate recipient of 8 million birr, whose winning ticket has gone unclaimed.

The National Lottery regularly organizes lotteries, and this particular draw, with a grand prize of 20 million birr, took place in August 2023, revealing 1820259 as the first lucky number.

Tedros Niway, the Director of Communications for the National Lottery Administration, conveyed that, “Aside from the three winners already announced, the recipients of two winning tickets have yet to come forward.”

The National Lottery Administration stipulates that if the winners of these two lots, each worth eight million birr, fail to claim their prizes by February 30, 2024, the funds will be transferred to the government account.

Out of the 20 million birr in lottery tickets, individuals employed as drivers and waiter in a private company in Metehara city, Oromia region have claimed 12 million birr, according to Mr. Tedros.

He urged lottery participants to double-check their tickets, emphasizing that some may be unaware of the draw results. Reflecting on a past incident, he shared that three years ago, a 20 million birr lottery winner come just five days before the end of the prize period and secured 16 million birr from three winning tickets.

Addressing the common occurrence of winners not coming forward, Mr. Tedros remarked, “Individuals who win smaller prizes often neglect to claim them, resulting in the funds being directed to the government.”

As per the National Lottery Management Act, winners have a six-month window to claim their prize; failure to do so within this period of time results in the funds being deposited into the government treasury.

Established six decades ago, the National Lottery has continually expanded its range of lotteries and prize amounts.

Currently offering 14 types of lotteries, including Admas Digital, Tombola, Elephant, Enqutatash, Easter, Christmas Gift, Special, Bingo, and Instant Lotteries, the institution features prize durations ranging from 15 days to two months, with awards reaching up to 20 million birr for the fortunate winners.
