Ethiopian Airlines Marks 40 Years of Operations to Congo Republic, Brazzaville with Ambitious Plans.

Ethiopian Airlines commemorated the 40th anniversary of its inaugural direct flights to Brazzaville, the capital of Congo.

As the oldest aviation company in Africa, Ethiopian Airlines embarked on its first direct flight to Brazzaville in 1983, marking a significant milestone in its long and distinguished history.

Presently, Ethiopian Airlines operates an impressive schedule of 10 flights per week from its hub in Addis Ababa to Brazzaville, solidifying its commitment to connectivity in the region.

As Ethiopian Airlines reflects on its four-decade journey to Brazzaville, the celebration is not just a tribute to the past but a launchpad for a future marked by innovation, growth, and continued excellence in the aviation industry, the airlines announced.

With a robust network, the airline serves over 63 cities across Africa, making it the airline that traverses the skies of the continent more extensively than any other in the world.

Established in December 1945 and fully owned by the government, Ethiopian Airlines initiated its maiden flight to Cairo, Egypt.

Fast forward to the Dubai Airshow 2023, where the airline’s CEO, Mr. Mesfin Tasew, shared strategic plans for the future. The airline has reached agreements to acquire 78 aircraft from industry giants Boeing and Airbus, underscoring its commitment to modernizing its fleet.

The agreement was to buy 11 787 Dreamliners, 20 737 MAX, with opportunity for 36 more jets, represents the largest Boeing jet purchase by an African carrier.

Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines has agreed to buy 11 787 Dreamliner and 20 737 MAX airplanes with an opportunity for 15 and 21 additional jets, respectively.

The agreement, signed by Ethiopia’s national carrier at the Dubai Airshow, represents the largest-ever purchase of Boeing airplanes in African history.

And also Ethiopian and Airbus aviation Technology Company signed a memorandum of understanding to buy 11 Airbus A350-900s.

In a testament to its success and resilience, Ethiopian Airlines accommodated 13 million passengers in 2022 and announced a remarkable profit of 6 billion dollars.

With its current fleet comprising 145 aircraft, Mr. Tasew disclosed plans to further expand, expressing a desire to acquire an additional 130 aircraft to realize the ambitious goals outlined in the airline’s 2035 plan.
