Ethiopia Reports First COVID Deaths In Nearly Four Weeks

In its update today, the ministry says two patients have passed away due to Covid-19 in the last twenty-four hours.

The previous Coronavirus-induced death in Ethiopia was reported on April 20, 2022.

The national Covid death toll currently stands at 7, 512, says the ministry.

Active Cases Increase

Six severely sick patients are still getting treatment in hospitals, the report shows. The patients are among 7,719 confirmed active cases in the country.

The active cases count has increased by 39 today as more new daily cases than recoveries continue to be reported.

The nation has confirmed 42 new covid-19 cases from close to 2, 800 people tested in the past 24-hours. Only one patient recuperated from the disease in the same period, the report says.

To date, the country has identified 470,991 cases and 455, 758 recoveries.

Vaccine Drive Stalls

Health experts are still advising the public to be vigilant and follow the Covid protocols including wearing facemasks when in crowded places.

The advice comes as the national vaccination pace remains at a standstill and health officials plan to launch another vaccine drive next month.

The East African nation offered the first Covid vaccine to its citizens in March, 2021. Since then, it has administered nearly 29.45 doses of the vaccine nationwide while fully vaccinating 24.5 million people against the virus.
