The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) has announced that the 68th U.S. Secretary of State, John Kerry, will be the keynote speaker at its upcoming Global Summit, scheduled to be held from October 8th to 10th in Perth, Western Australia.

John Kerry, a prominent figure in international diplomacy, has a distinguished career that includes leading initiatives on nuclear non-proliferation and countering extremism.

Notably, he signed the Paris Agreement on climate change on behalf of the United States in 2015.

In 2021, Kerry was appointed as the first Special Presidential Envoy for Climate and became the first Principal to sit on the National Security Council with a sole focus on climate issues.

His contributions to public service have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the Silver Star, Bronze Star with Combat V, and three Purple Hearts for his service during the Vietnam War. In 2024, Kerry was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his lifelong commitment to public service.

WTTC President & CEO Julia Simpson expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are honored to welcome Secretary John Kerry as a keynote speaker at our Global Summit in Perth.

His unparalleled experience and dedication to tackling climate change and global challenges align perfectly with our mission to drive a more sustainable and resilient future for the Travel & Tourism sector.

Secretary Kerry’s insights will undoubtedly inspire our sector as we come together to forge innovative solutions that balance economic growth with our responsibility to protect our planet.”

The 2024 Global Summit will attract industry leaders and government representatives from around the world, providing a vital platform for collaboration on strategies to ensure the continued growth and sustainability of global Travel & Tourism.

In addition to Secretary Kerry, the Summit will feature Australian conservationist and television personality Robert Irwin, who is globally recognized for his advocacy for wildlife and the natural world.

Irwin, also a producer, author, and photographer, will share his insights on conservation and environmental stewardship.

The WTTC, established in 1990, serves as the global authority on the economic and social contribution of Travel & Tourism.

The organization promotes sustainable growth within the sector by working with governments and international institutions to create jobs, drive exports, and generate prosperity.

The Council is composed of Chairs, Presidents, and Chief Executives of leading private sector Travel & Tourism businesses.

Since 2021, the WTTC has been led by Julia Simpson, who has extensive experience in the aviation industry, including 14 years on the Board of British Airways and Iberia, and as Chief of Staff at International Airlines Group.

Prior to her role in the aviation sector, Simpson served as a senior adviser to the UK Prime Minister.

The 2024 WTTC Global Summit in Perth promises to be a landmark event, bringing together global tourism organizations, experts, media professionals, and invited guests to shape the future of the Travel & Tourism industry.
