Ethiopia’s new ambassador to the United States, Seleshi Bekele presented his letter of credentials to President Joe Biden on Saturday.
On the same day, the Ambassador attended an event hosted by Secretary of State Antony John Blinken and his wife, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Ambassador Seleshi also held a substantive bilateral meeting with Ambassador Molly Phee, Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs.
Seleshi took the office of the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the U.S. last May, during which the envoy said he would work hard to boost the century-old ties between Washington and Addis Ababa.
He replaced Fitsum Arega who served as ambassador of Ethiopia to the U.S. for over two years.
Before taking the ambassadorial role, Seleshi was serving as the Chief Negotiator and Advisor on Transboundary Rivers and Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) at the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Prior to that, Ambassador Seleshi served as the Minister of Water, Irrigation, and Energy of Ethiopia.
