Ethiopian Govt and TPLF Sign Ceasefire Agreement

The Ethiopian government and TPLF on Wednesday signed an agreement on cessation of hostilities following an AU-led peace talks in South Africa

Redwan Hussien, the national security adviser to PM Abiy Ahmed, and Getachew Reda, a senior TPLF official, signed the accord and went on to shake hands.

The two parties greed:

  • To Permanently silence the guns
  • To Safeguard the sovereignty & territorial integrity of Ethiopia amd uphold EFDR Constitution
  • Maintain one Defence Force
  • To expedite aid
  • stopall forms of conflict and hostile propaganda
  • For the government to continue restore public services amd rebuild infrastructures
  • To ensure accountability, truce, reconciliation & healing through transitional justice..

The African Union said the agreement marks an important step in efforts to silence the guns.”

It provides a solid foundation for the preservation of Ethiopia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the immediate cessation of hostilities, the resumption of unhindered humanitarian access, the restoration of services as well as healing and reconciliation.
