South Sudan civil war threatens Ethiopia’s security

Gambella region announced that there is a security threat due to the civil conflict in South Sudan.

The United Nations has announced that more than 30 thousand residents have been displaced from their residential areas since last week in the Jongele region of South Sudan due to the conflict between the Nuer and Murle tribes.

The Head of Ethiopia’s Gambella region communication Service head Mr Ugetu Ading said that, Such a conflict creates an opportunity for illegal weapons transfers.

He also added that, we are working to solve the problem by deploying more forces to control the security threat between the neighboring areas.

Besides this, the chief said that when there were conflicts like this in the past, victims used to enter the Gambella region in large numbers.

Two days before, the United Nations has announced that more than 50 people have been killed as a result of the civil conflict that occurred in South Sudan and recommends the government to deploy more security forces and guarantees the rights of civillians.
