Somaliland and Puntland Reject Closure of Ethiopian Consulates

Four months ago, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the President of the self-declared independent Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, inked a memorandum of understanding in Addis Ababa. This agreement, among other things, granted Ethiopia ownership of a port and recognized Somaliland as a sovereign state. However, this move has sparked significant outrage and opposition in Somalia, which considers Somaliland as part of its own territory. Ethio-Somalia Ministerial Commission held in Mogadishu

The First Ethio-Somalia Joint Ministerial Commission meeting was held today on 07 September 2023 in Mogadishu, Somalia. The session was preceded by the Senior Officials meeting, which took place from 5 to 6 September 2023. The JMC was co-chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen, and Somalia's Deputy Prime Minister, Salah Ahmed Jama.
