Ethiopian Traders to Attend Italy’s Top Agrio-industry Exhibition

A delegation of Ethiopian traders is set to attend the 2022 edition of the great agricultural machinery exhibition scheduled for November, according to the Embassy of Italy in Addis Ababa.

Organized by the Italian federation of agricultural machinery manufacturers (FederUnacomais), the EIMA International event is the world’s second-largest trade fair for agriculture and gardening machinery.

The Italian Trade Agency’s office in Addis Ababa is organizing the presence of the delegation of Ethiopian trade operators at the 45th edition of EIMA to be held at the Bologna exhibition center from November 9 to 13.

In a press briefing on Monday, the agency’s Addis Ababa Office director Riccardo Zucconi said that the Ethiopian delegation will get chances to explore business opportunities during the EIMA Exhibition.

Events such as EIMA 2022 are an opportunity to strengthen cooperation relations between Ethiopia and Italy, Zucconi said, in a sector such as agriculture that is becoming increasingly strategic in the African setting.

Agriculture accounts for almost half of Ethiopia’s GDP and employs 85% of the population.

The need for agricultural machinery in Ethiopia is vast, as the country’s crops are extensive and diversified, the Italian embassy says.

On show at EIMA are multiple models of machinery and equipment specifically for these crops, many of which are designed specifically to operate in climatic and environmental settings such as Ethiopia.

About 50,000 models, produced by more than 1,500 manufacturers from 50 countries, will be on display, according to the organizers.

”The exhibition,” explained FederUnacoma Deputy Director Fabio Ricci, “is addressed to an audience of professional operators, and is presented with a rigorous product subdivision that envisions 14 sectors of specialization and 5 themed shows”.

The shows will be dedicated to components (EIMA Components), irrigation systems (Idrotech), bioenergy supply chains (Energy), advanced electronic and information technologies (Digital), and gardening and landscaping (Green).

The ICE Agency and FederUnacoma are also organizing targeted visits to the various sectors of the exhibition and ‘B2B’ meetings between trade operators and manufacturers.

EIMA International will therefore be attended by an official delegation of Ethiopian trade operators promoted by the ICE Agency and FederUnacoma, said the embassy. The delegation will involve dealers, entrepreneurs, and technicians engaged in the agricultural sector.

More than 400 Ethiopian companies have so far participated in the international trade fairs organized in Italy in various sectors including agribusiness, machinery and automotive, and mining, according to the trade office.
