Some ctivities have started to restore the palace of Haile Selassie I

The former Emperor Haile Selassie Gente Liule Palace, located in Addis Ababa University main campus, is the current Ethiopian Research Institute, which is about to be renovated.

The workers previously complained that the palace had suffered severe damage and was being neglected.

Following this, the research has been done and then an international tender has been started for the organizations that will carry out the renovation.

Emperor Haile Selassie’s family had tried many times to restore the palace because the palace was not being renovated at the time, but the university refused to do so.

The workers said that it is not known when the renovation will start, because the roof is leaking, so it would be better if the renovation of the roof is completed before winter.

The former palace of Emperor Haile Selassie palace, which is estimated to have rested on an area of 200 square meters, was completed in 1935 and opened for use, and is now 88 years old.

Although it was renovated ten years ago by the Institute of Culture and Tourism, it was stated that the renovation was not up to standard.

Addis Maleda reports that the exterior of the palace building is cracking, the roof is leaking, and the woodwork is old and the mosaics are leaking.

The water lines around the building are also old and in need of repair, and the stairs of the building have also been damaged by flooding.
