Ethiopian students will compete at global ICT competition

The 2022–2023 Huawei ICT Competition, which is a competitive ICT talent exchange event for university students, launched on November 11, 2022, for the 7th round in Ethiopia.

More than 1500 students from Ethiopian higher institutions registered and took the online preliminary exam.

Among them 63 of the students were able to attend the national ICT competition, which was held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on last December.

A total of 15 students who aced the national exam competed in the regional finals in countries including Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Cameron, Congo, and others in Africa.

These 15 students convened on March 22, 2023, at the Huawei Ethiopia headquarters to participate in the regional Huawei ICT competition.

The online exam, which lasted over 6 hours, had three tracks, namely the network track, the cloud track, and the computing track.

Six students from University of Gondar, Wachemo University, Addis Ababa Science and Technology University, and Adama Science and Technology University passed the exam and advanced to the global final of the Huawei ICT Competition.

This students will represent Ethiopia at the Huawei ICT Competition Finals in China.

The Competition aims to drive the development of high-quality ICT talent, continuously provide future driving forces and active participants for digital transformation, promote efficient mapping of talent supply and demand, and further contribute to a sustainable talent ecosystem.

Mr. Liming Ye, Huawei Ethiopia PR director, sent his gratitude to the students and said that the Huawei ICT Competition provides an international platform through which university students from around the world can compete and share ideas with each other.

The sixth Huawei ICT Competition, held in 2022, attracted 150,000 university students from 85 countries and regions.

Ethiopian students have been taking part in the competition since 2019.
