A Russian citizen died in Bishoftu City, Ethiopia

A 55-year-Old Russian citizen died while visiting Bishoftu city in the Oromia region.

This Russian man, who is 55 years old, died while swimming in Kuriftu Lake in Bishoftu city of Oromia region.

The Russian citizen was one among the foreign nationals who were having fun at the Bishoftu Kuriftu Lake, the Fire and Disaster Risk Management Commission announced.

According to Ngatu Mamo, the Public Relations Officer of the Commission, the person who died was swimming in the 150-meter-deep Kuriftu Lake.

The person did not return after entering the inner part of the lake to swim last Sunday, June 25, 2023.

After several attempts to retrieve the body of the Russian citizen, the swimmers of the Fire and Disaster Risk Management Department found the body after two hours of searching.

Bishoftu city is a city known to foreign and domestic visitors and located 60 kilometres away from Addis Ababa.

It is not unusual for foreign visitors to die in Ethiopia, and the death of the Russian citizen saddened the local communities.
