A district police chief and his deputy shot dead in Amhara region

In the Amhara region; Dejen district police chief and his deputy died in attacks.

The district’s government communication office announced that the police chief and his deputy were killed and two others were injured in a shootout in Dejen district, East Gojam zone in Amhara region.

The office also stated that a search is underway to arrest the suspect who allegedly opened fire that led to the death of the district police commanders.

Degen District Police Chief Inspector Zewdu Tadele and his deputy Inspector Worku Shimeles were attacked today, Monday July third 2023.

Mr. Getahun Gashaye, the head of the district government communication office, told “Ethiopia Insider” that it was about two o’clock in the afternoon.

They opened fire on the police commanders. The head of the communication office explained that they were driving to the Abay Valley school to monitor the security of the eighth grade exams being given in different areas today.

Mr. Getahun said that, when the two police chiefs arrived at a village called “Galgele”, they were opened fire by a man who was “waiting for them on the road”.

In this attack, the police commander, Inspector Zewdu, and his deputy, Inspector Worku, were shot and died immediately.

The official added that their driver was “hit in the leg” and injured.
