BMW Automobile company chooses Artist Julie Mehretu to decorate its car
Ethiopian-born Julie Mehretu, who is known for her abstract paintings, was chosen to decorate the new BMW car.
The BMW design projet is leading by international museum directors and curatorial judges stated that artist Julie Mehretu was chosen to design the car.
The ‘BMW Hybrid V8′ car, which will be decorated by the works of artist Julie Mehretu, will be presented at the ’24 Hours of Le Mans race’ in June 2024.
The artist has received numerous recognitions and awards for her work and won the MacArthur Fellowship Award in the US in 2005 and 2015.
She also won the 2015 American Medal of Arts Award and the 2007 Berlin Prize.
In 2021, she was elected as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Design.
Artist Julie Mehretu was born from an Ethiopian father and a US mother in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia according to the information from US Embassy in Ethiopia.
