Ethiopian Maritime Transport and Logistics revenue exceeds 42 billion birr and has announced more than 6 billion birr net profit.

The institution has indicated that it plans to earn 6.7 billion birr in the next 2016 fiscal year.

Beriso Amelo (Dr.), Chief Executive of Ethiopian Maritime Transport and Logistics, said that Covid-19, the war between Ukraine and Russia, domestic security problems and other problems had an impact on the company’s operations.

He stated that 34 per cent of the 7.4 million tons of goods transported from abroad to the country in the fiscal year was transported by Ethiopian Sea Transport and Logistics.

He mentioned that the shipping and package cargo services were carried out according to the plan, but he pointed out that there was a low performance in the case of steel transportation.

He said that purchasing 185 more trucks made it possible to carry out the transportation of goods from Djibouti-Addis Ababa more than planned.

The executive stated that in unimodal and multimodal, port and terminal services, cargo transportation, and warehouse services have mainly been achieved beyond the plan.

Ethiopia took delivery of a ship with a capacity of more than 60 thousand tons two months ago.

Ethiopian Maritime Transport and Logistics recently sold two ships named Bahir Dar and Hawasa because they caused losses.

In exchange for the two ships that were sold, the state-owned logistics institution bought a new ship named Abay from China.
