Oromia militants kidnaps more than 50 people in Ethiopia

The militants asking to pay one million birr to each of them to free the hostages.

More than 50 passengers who were traveling from Addis Ababa to Bahirdar were kidnapped by oromia militants near Gebre Guracha town in the North Showa zone of Oromia.

The hostages were carried out by the militants commonly lnown as “Shene”, and the hostages’ families were urged to pay one million birr per person.

The area where the blockade was carried out is 75 kilometers from Addis Ababa the capital city of Ethiopia.

The local residents said that, neither the federal police nor the national defense forces were able to stop the militants from carrying out the blockade against the citizens.

Residents told Ethio Negari that, it has been a year since night travel stopped in this area due to the treat of the attacks by the militants.

Neither the Oromia region nor the federal government has yet issued a statement regarding the abduction, and the families of the abducted people are finding money.

Oromia militants (Shene) was classified as a terrorist organisation by the House of Representatives two years ago.

This terrorist organization is operating in all zones of the Oromia region and attacking innocent citizens.

Ethiopia’s federal government started negotiations with this terrorist group in Tanzania two months ago, but the negotiations ended without an agreement.
