Anti-doping authority Banns six Ethiopian Athletes for years

The Ethiopian Anti-Doping Authority announced that it has been investigating the matter by imposing a temporary ban on the suspected athletes.

The Authority has confirmed that the banned athletes, athlete Shume Tafa Dessita and athlete Mengestu Bekele Tedecha, committed violations of the law by using prohibited stimulants or doping.

According to this, the long-distance runner, Shume Tafa Dessita, used a prohibited substance called 5-methylhexan-2-amine, and his results in the competition should be cancelled and suspended for four (4) years from May 25, 2023.  It is stated that he has been sentenced to not participate in any sports competition.

In the same way, athlete Mengstu Bekele Tedecha was found to have used the banned stimulant Erythropoietin (EPO) in a competition in China and banned from participating in any sporting event.

Also, athlete Fantu Itcha Jimma was banned from participating in any sporting events for five (5) years and her results in the competition were cancelled for her second use of the banned stimulant Erythropoietin (EPO).

On the other hand, athlete Ibse Ayele, athlete Birtukan Wake, Mengestu Nigatu and athlete Teshome Getachew have been sentenced for violations of the law by using prohibited stimulants.

The Ethiopian Anti-Doping Authority has announced that it will continue to act against athletes and other individuals involved in anti-doping violations by using sports stimulants or in various forms.
