Ethiopia earned more than $3 million from flowers on Valentine’s Day
On the occasion of 2023 Valentine’s Day, the Ethiopian horticulture Producers and Exporters Association announced that it exported 2165 tons of flowers to foreign countries and earned more than 3.2 million US dollars.
The main destination was Netherlands, Asia countries, Canada, UK, and various countries in Europe and Africa as well as the Middle East.
There are a total of 120 producers and exporters who provide fruit and vegetable products in addition to flowers under the Ethiopian Flower, Vegetable and Fruit Producers and Exporters Association.
85 percent of them are flower producers and exporters.
Ethiopia earned 10 million US dollars from the flowers export in the same period of 2022.
Ethiopia ranks second in flower trade in Africa after its neighbor Kenya, and it ranks 4th in the world.
Flower cultivation is carried out on 1,600 hectares of land in Oromia, Amhara and southern Ethiopia by local and foreign developers.
