UAE Contributes $60m in Support of Humanitieran Response in Ethiopia

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) on Tuesday said it has recieved $60 million from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support the UN agency’s humanitarian response in Ethiopia. In a statement today, the UN Agency said the funding will provide emergency food and nutrition assistance, particularly to communities affected by recent conflict in northern Ethiopia. More than 13 million people require humanitarian food assistance in Afar, Amhara, and Tigray regions, the Agency says. Humanitarian Truce Opens Greater Access for Aid Operations: WFP Executive Director

World Food Programme (WFP) Executive Director David Beasley said the current humanitarian truce declared by the Ethiopian government has opened greater access to operations in Tigray region. At the conclusion of his visit to Ethiopia, the executive director told reporters last night that some 2,500 trucks carrying food and other items have entered the region during the last two months.
