14.78bln Br Expansion of Modjo Dry Port Underways

Transport and Logistics Minister Dagmawit Moges has assessed the progress of the expansion project of the dry port located in Lome district at Modjo town, during a visit over the weekend.

The minister said the construction, which is under implementation at a cost of 4.78 billion birr, is financed by the World Bank.

The facility, the largest of the eight operational inland dry ports in Ethiopia, has the capacity to accommodate 17,539 TEU containers at a time.

The ongoing expansion project “will equip the port with additional warehouses, container yards, access roads and gate controls,” Dagmawit said on Sunday.

“Up on completion, it will be the nucleus of the Ethiopian Logistics System,” said the minister, adding that the port is an integral part of making Ethiopia the Logistics Hub for East #Africa and beyond.

The dry port, which is connected to the Ethio–Djibouti Railway, handles more than 78% of the nation’s imports, according to Ethiopian Shipping & Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE).
